Barrel Picking In a Time of COVID

Julian Friedman went on an intimate, four person only barrel pick at Four Roses Distillery with Brent Elliot, the master distiller at Four Roses Distillery. 


The first two bottles that will be available from this barrel pick will go to auction on one of the largest bourbon groups in the world, and the proceeds will go to St. Judes.


The biggest difference between a barrel pick during COVID times and non COVID times was the table talk. During this most recent trip there was only a third of the amount in the pick group due to the virus, so there was way less sound and people talking over each-other, so the communication and discussion of barrel choice was easier.


The group that went on the barrel pick voted on the final seven barrels chose, narrowing them down to only three. Once there was only three, the group re tested the barrels, and Julians voted ended up being the same as master distiller Brent Elliots Votes.
